2019 promises to continue and increase privacy regulation at both the state and federal level. NIST is in the process of incorporating a privacy framework in the RMF. Privacy risks include compliance, reputational, and market value risk. It is critical for the privacy and security functions to work together to protect personal data. Use cases distinguish between data breaches and privacy breaches and suggest best practices.

Paige Boshell

Paige Boshell is Managing Member of Privacy Counsel LLC. She has been designated a Privacy Law Specialist by the American Bar Association and a Fellow of Information Privacy by the International Association of Privacy Professionals. She is ANSI-certified as CIPM (privacy management), CIPP/E (European law), and CIPP/US (US law). She is Secretary and Board Member of InfraGard Birmingham.

Boshell believes that data privacy and security are critical to the management of regulatory, civil liability, reputational, and market risk. She speaks and writes regularly regarding data breach planning, response and resiliency, privacy planning and compliance, managing vendor and cyber risk, and related cyber issues, including: speaker at American Bar Association Business Law Section Annual Meeting, DRI Cybersecurity Conference, American Bar Association Cyberspace Committee Meeting, National Cyber Summit, Alabama Interface, Alabama CyberNow, client webinars, and various local association meetings and CLEs; author, including American Bar Association “Business Law Today”, Inside Counsel, Alabama Bankers Association, Threat Advice, and client alerts. Her 2017-2018 Privacy Survey was recently published by “The Business Lawyer”. She has also been consulted and interviewed by the AP, Washington Post, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, and a variety of other publications.
